About Song of India

Est. 1932

Rooted in Tradition, Crafted for Mindful Living

Song of India traces its roots back to 1932, when my grandfather, Mr. Jagdamba Prashad Mathur, founded Mathur Perfumery Works in Delhi. From a humble storefront, he shared his passion for natural perfume oils, herbal remedies, and hand-rolled incense—crafted with time-honored techniques.

As the business flourished, his expertise and craftsmanship were inherited by my father, Mr. Durga Prashad Mathur, who, alongside my mother, expanded the family’s offerings and nurtured a loyal community of Indian customers who valued purity, wellness, and beauty.

By the 1960s, as the world began seeking natural products and essential oils, international travelers discovered our small shop in Delhi. Drawn to the authenticity and quality of our creations, they carried our fragrances across borders, sparking the beginning of our journey toward global expansion.

In 1972, I founded R. Expo, carrying forward my grandfather’s vision into a new era. In the beginning fulfilling small international orders, we grew into a trusted name for natural products and handicrafts. In 1989, my wife Anju and I along with our daughters opened a new chapter in Seattle, WA, to bring Song of India to the United States, while my brothers continued to oversee production and exports from India.

Today, we are honored to be recognized as global leaders in natural wellness products and artisanal décor, with a legacy built on quality, sustainability, and mindfulness. Yet at our heart, we remain the same family-run business—committed to crafting oils, incense, candles, and spiritual décor that bring peace, balance, and beauty into everyday lives of our patrons.

To our customers worldwide: thank you for walking this journey with us. Your support and trust have shaped our growth from a single shop in Delhi to a global family brand.

To our dedicated teams in India and the U.S.: your passion and craftsmanship are the true essence of Song of India. Your help is never forgotten and has always been valued by our Mathur Family.

With every creation, we honor my grandfather’s legacy of crafting gifts that nurture wellness and mindful living. He could have never imagined his humble creations reaching homes around the world — and we feel honored to carry his dream forward with care and passion.

With sincere appreciation,
